Yesterday in the capital of Mali, Bamako, the funeral of the famous Malian director Souleymane Cisse was held, one of the fathers of African cinema, who passed away at the age of 84. After prayers at the Bamako mosque, the grave with the coffin was taken to his home in the Niaréla area of the capital of Mali, where he was buried. Souleymane Cisse, who was supposed to celebrate his 85th birthday in April, passed away shortly after a press conference held on the morning of the same day. After a few hours after the conference, his condition deteriorated, and he passed away at one of the clinics in Bamako. Cisse was supposed to head one of the juries at the 29th African film festival in Ouagadougou, which started yesterday in the capital of Burkina Faso. Cisse was awarded the jury prize at the Cannes film festival in 1987 for the film "The Light" and was awarded again at the Cannes festival in 2023. Cisse died in the afternoon after the press conference that he held that same morning.
